Volunteer In-Service Work Areas

BABYNOOK:  

  • Retail sales, inventory, price and stock maternity and infant merchandise and gifts
  • Provide friendly and courteous customer service

BEHAVORIAL HEALTH SERVICES:

  • Assist with socialization projects with the patients. (Must be a high school graduate.)

BOOKCART:

  • Replenish current magazines to all waiting areas in the hospital.

CANCER INSTITUTE:

  • Provide information to patients and family members visiting the institute.
  • Help staff with special clerical projects in various departments.
  • Assist with research & information in Circle Library.
  • Assist with information & referral in Breast Health.

COURTESY VISITS:

  • The Patient Liaison Program functions as a resource and referral for patient needs and inquiries, which includes daily visits to patients to evaluate their hospital stay

EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT:

  • Part of the patient care team, providing assistance with stocking, escort and errands.
  • Provide warm blankets, magazines and comfort to patients.
  • Provide information and refreshments to families in waiting room.

FAMILY INFORMATION:

  • Liaison between surgical staff and families/friends of patients in surgery
  • Provide refreshments to waiting family members and friends.

FLOOR DUTY:

  • Work in the Volunteer Office, answer phones, disseminate information, accept flowers for patients, computer, etc.
  • Run errands: patient mail and email, flowers, newspapers and medical records, etc.
  • Perform tasks for other departments, such as: mailings, clerical, filing, organizing, computer, etc.
  • Provide patient video program, register couples for birthing & infant care classes, mail brochures, etc.

FRONT DESK RECEPTION:

  • Direct visitors and patients to rooms or departments within the hospital
  • Disseminate information to visitors, patients and callers
  • Wheelchair escort

GIFT GALLERY:  

  • Retail sales, cash register, inventory, price and stock merchandise
  • Provide friendly and courteous customer service.

MATERNITY UNIT:

  • Assist staff with clerical duties such as making up patient charts, filing, etc.
  • Change crib sheets, run errands and act as liaison between families and staff.
  • Make packets for new mothers.

"S.M.I.L.E." CART "Students Making Illness a Little Easier":

  • High School Students visit patients, offer warm blankets, assist with meals, organize personal items, refresh water for flowers, etc.
  • Offer complimentary items from "S.M.I.L.E." cart, , including magazines, lip balm, hand lotion, notebooks and pencils, crossword, wordfind and sudoku books, playing cards and mints.

CLERICAL:

  • Medical Records, EP Lab, Dietary Services, Medical Staff Office, Cardiac Services and Quality Management all require clerical assistance. This includes computer operation, answering telephones, filing, alphabetizing, archiving files, ordering supplies, photocopying, etc.
