ICU - About Us

About US

We are here to help your loved one get through this medical crisis. Our goal is to provide the highest quality care to your family member. We encourage you to turn to us when you have questions or concerns.

There’s a whole team of people at MGH who will care for your loved one - each with special knowledge and skills to help those who are seriously ill.

Your team members - and what we do:

Doctors - your doctors have the overall responsibility for your loved one’s medical care. They oversee all medical tests, and decide what treatments are best.

Registered Nurses - most of the hands-on, daily care is provided by registered nurses. Also, they evaluate patients several times a day and monitor their care and equipment. Since the hospital is open 24 hours a day, your family member will be helped by several different nurses during the day and evening.

Respiratory therapists - help with patients who have difficulty breathing.

Physical therapists - help patients improve their strength and flexibility after an accident or illness.

Dieticians - give advice about nutrition and special eating concerns.

Social Workers and Case Managers - help with financial matters, insurance, community resources, and planning for going home.

Chaplains - available for spiritual and emotional support for families and patients. We have
non-denominational chaplains available, as well as priests, ministers and rabbis.

Technicians and support staff - monitor medical equipment, draw blood, move patients, and serve meals.
