MGH Volunteers donate over $253K
The Marin General Hospital Volunteers were honored last week at the 2008 Volunteer Recognition Luncheon at the Spinnaker Restaurant in Sausalito. CEO David Bradley accepted over $253,000 from the hospital Volunteers. The funds will be used to support a variety of healthcare and community programs.

Ten MGH Surgeons Help 49 Operation Access Patients
Ten surgeons on staff at Marin General Hospital helped 49 patients last year through the Operation Access program a non-profit organization that helps connect uninsured patients with free surgical care through a network of Bay Area medical volunteers, hospitals and community clinics. Physicians practicing with Anesthesia Consultants of Marin also provided free services to these patients.

MGH among top in state breastfeeding rates
A report issued by the University of California at Davis Human Lactation Center and sponsored by the California WIC Association names Marin General Hospital among the top ten hospitals in the state for supporting new moms in their decision to breastfeed their babies. Studies have linked breastfeeding to a lower incidence of childhood obesity, diabetes and many infections and cancers.

Oncology Pharmacy Certifications Awarded to MGH Pharmacists
For the first time in Marin General history, two pharmacists are board certified in Oncology Pharmacy. Carmen Dett of Corte Madera and Elenore “Lina” Amcheslavsky of Greenbrae are among 60 pharmacists in California with this certification. One hundred fourteen pharmacists out of 211 passed the most recent Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties (BPS) Oncology Pharmacy Specialty Certification Examination.

Sophia/Sofia and Dylan/Dyllan Most Popular Names Among Babies Born at MGH in 2007
Marin General Hospital’s Family Birth Center today said that 1,788 babies were delivered in 2007 and that Sophia/Sofia and Dylan/Dyllan were the most popular names.

New linear accelerator for Marin Cancer Institute
The first of two new Varian linear accelerators is treating patients at the Marin Cancer Institute. The $2.5 million Varian iX was installed in July and is now treating more than half of all radiation therapy cases, according to Dr. Chun Li, the institute’s medical physicist. The Radiation Therapists named the new machine Xena, Warrior Princess.

Robotic surgery system planned for MGH
Marin General Hospital is in the final planning stages of implementing the daVinci Surgical System, a new, state-of-the-art robotic technology that assists surgeons during minimally invasive or laparoscopic surgeries.

California State Senator Carole Migden honored Marin General's Lactation Center during a Mother's Day press conference promoting the importance of breastfeeding. Moms and their babies, hospital staff, nurses and physicians attended.

A $1.3 million CT Scanner was recently unveiled in Diagnostic Radiology. The scanner is faster and provides vastly improved three dimensional detail.
