Free Skin Screening Clinic
Diagnoses 25 with Skin Cancer
One hundred sixty-six Marin residents took advantage of a free full-body skin cancer screening in May at the Marin Cancer Institute and 25 were diagnosed with skin cancers. Fifteen have basal cell cancer, seven were diagnosed with squamous cell cancer and three have melanoma.
Another 56 were referred to physicians for biopsy and treatment.
Eleven physicians from Marin General Hospital, Novato Community Hospital and Kaiser Medical Center in San Rafael examined participants.
One hundred eight participants said this was the first time they had taken advantage of a free skin cancer screening.
Physicians who conducted exams were: Dr. Michael Franzblau, Dr. Axel Hoke, Dr. Kim Fredrickson, Dr. Joseph Greenberg, Dr. Jodi Grossfeld, Dr. Anya Landeck, Dr. David Laub, Dr. Diana Parnell, Dr. Cheryl Tanasovich, Dr. Lewis Tanenbaum, Dr. Nancy Todes-Taylor.
The Marin Cancer Institute, a program of Marin General Hospital, and the American Academy of Dermatology sponsored the event.
