MGH and NCH Contribute $22.7 Million
in 2006 Community Benefits
Marin General and Novato Community Hospital contributed a combined $22.7 million in support of 138 community programs and services that benefited 27,337 people in 2006. The majority of this spending was for charity care and un-reimbursed care.
MGH provided $19.4 million (7.69 percent of net patient revenues) in support of 105 community programs and services that benefited 24,067 people. The unpaid cost for Medi-Cal was $10.7 million and $4.6 million for Medically Indigent Adults. Traditional charity care amounted to another $2.9 million.
NCH provided $3.2 million (5.24 percent of net patient revenues) in support of 33 community programs and services that benefited 3,270 people. The unpaid cost for Medi-Cal was $2.3 million and $378,000 for Medically Indigent Adults. Traditional charity care amounted to another $322,000.
Both hospitals sponsored a variety of programs and services in 2006, including financial contributions and in-kind donations of staff services to the Healthy Marin Partnership, free and low cost public education seminars and support groups for breast and prostate cancer patients. MGH also provided a rent subsidy to the Marin Community Clinic, located on the Greenbrae campus.
